RICHMOND, Ky. – The University of Tennessee at Martin golf team generated one of the biggest jumps in the tournament field at the EKU Intercollegiate, as the first two rounds of the three-round event was held today at the University Club at Arlington.

The Skyhawks’ score of 288 (+8) ranked in 10th place after the first round of play but UT Martin trimmed off seven strokes during the afternoon round, shooting a 281 (+1). Through 36 holes, the Skyhawks rank second in the field with 117 pars and now stand in seventh place with a 569 (+9), just two strokes away from fourth place in the congested 18-team field.

Tyler Guy was UT Martin’s top golfer today, as he carded an even-par 140 in the first two rounds. The redshirt senior out of Clarksville, Tenn. shot a 69 this morning before following with a 71 in the second round, dialing up a team-high seven birdies on the day.

Hunter Richardson posted rounds of 73 and 69 today for an overall score of 142 (+2), parring a tournament-high 27 holes in the process. Zach Haynes filed a total score of 144 (+4) after shooting a 73 this morning and a 71 this afternoon.

Austin Swafford (73, 72) and Gavin Shellnut (76, 70) finished with cumulative scores of 145 and 146, respectively. Swafford was responsible for one of the 11 eagles posted throughout the tournament’s first day, as he accomplished the impressive feat on the par-5, 556-yard No. 12 hole during the first round.

The third and final round of the tournament tees off at 8:30 a.m. Eastern time on Sunday, Sept. 18. The Skyhawks will be paired with George Mason, Longwood and Eastern Michigan.
