SKYHAWKS SECOND HALF RALLY FALLS SHORT AGAINST UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team opened their 2016 road schedule this evening as the Skyhawks dropped a 4-1 decision at UAB.

After falling down 3-0 at halftime, UT Martin (0-2) opened the second half with a flurry of pressure on the UAB defense. Following a foul by the Blazers in their own box, senior Saphyra Coombs-James was able to convert on a penalty kick to get the Skyhawks on the board. It was the 23rd career goal for the forward out of Brampton, Ontario.

UT Martin continued to press the Blazers looking to cut into the UAB (1-1) lead, but it was unable to convert on any more chances. Freshman Nicole Collins took three shots for the Skyhawks, and Coombs-James finished with two shots on net. Sophomore goalkeeper MaKenzie Crawford recorded six saves in the contest.

The Skyhawks will look to rebound as they travel to Starkville, Miss. to take on Southeastern Conference foe Mississippi State next Sunday, Aug. 28. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
