UT MARTIN SOCCER FALLS 1-0 IN EXHIBITION TUNEUP AT ARKANSAS STATE

JONESBORO, Ark. – The University of Tennessee at Martin’s 2016 soccer campaign opened on Friday with a 1-0 exhibition loss at Arkansas State University.
Sophomore MaKenzie Crawford dominated the action in net during the first half as the Skyhawks and Red Wolves went into the locker room tied 0-0. Arkansas State’s Taylor Schneider was able to get free for the eventual game-winning goal just four minutes into the second half to put the Red Wolves on top 1-0.
The Skyhawks were able to generate several good chances late in the game including a shot that just missed off the crossbar in the 89th minute from redshirt freshman Sophia Sharos. UT Martin dominated the play putting nine shots on goal, but were unable to find the equalizer. Sophomore Shannon Gratton landed four shots, while senior Saphyra Coombs-James added three shots on net for the Skyhawks.
The regular season will begin next Friday, Aug. 19 as UT Martin plays host to Western Kentucky University at Skyhawk Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
