MARTIN, Tenn. – University of Tennessee at Martin head equestrian coach Meghan Corvin has announced the addition of Liana Nowak to the 2016-17 Skyhawk roster.

A native of Snellville, Ga., Nowak will compete as a freshman this season. She will specialize in reining and horsemanship.

“I chose UT Martin because of the opportunity to compete on a Division-I NCAA team,” Nowak said. “I really like the coaches and the rest of the team has been very welcoming. I also love the campus and other academic opportunities that it will provide.”

Nowak rode for Brookwood High’s IEA team under the guidance of Katie Poteet and Kevin Jewell. She qualified for the IEA national finals five out of seven years during her middle and high school years. She was a high point rider at the 2015 IEA Zone 4 Western finals, helping the Broncos to a first place finish in that event.

In 2015, Nowak qualified for the IEA national finals in both individual reining and horsemanship. She placed third in the individual horsemanship discipline in the IEA Western finals.

Nowak is currently ranked No. 9 in the nation for NRHA Youth 14-18. She placed first in three out of six classes at the Heart of Dixie Reining Horse Association show in May 2015.
