BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the second straight season, the University of Tennessee at Martin rifle program has won the Ohio Valley Conference Team Academic Achievement Award, the league announced today.

The award is presented annually in each Conference-sponsored sport to the member institution’s team with the greatest percentage of its eligible student-athletes who achieved a 3.25 Grade Point Average or higher. This marks the fourth time that the Skyhawk rifle squad has won the OVC Team Academic Achievement Award since 2006-07.

In 2015-16, UT Martin rifle generated a 3.34 team GPA and tallied nine out of a possible 12 members (75 percent) on the OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll. All in all, the Skyhawks boasted over one-third (nine of 26) of the OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll recipients for the sport of rifle.

On Wednesday, the OVC announced that 83 UT Martin student-athletes had earned a spot on the league’s Commissioner’s Honor Roll (at least a 3.25 GPA) for the 2015-16 academic year. The OVC also revealed on Thursday that eight Skyhawk student-athletes had compiled a perfect 4.0 GPA en route to a Medal of Honor in 2015-16.
