THREE NEWCOMERS SET TO JOIN UT MARTIN RIFLE PROGRAM IN 2016-17
June 30, 2016
MARTIN, Tenn. – University of Tennessee at Martin head rifle coach Bob Beard has announced the signings of a trio of incoming freshmen who will join the Skyhawks this fall, as Kaitlin Korinek, Amanda Mayo and Jennifer Plocinik have all inked their commitments to the program.
A native of Irwin, Pa., Korinek comes to UT Martin from Penn-Trafford High School. A member of the Honors program, she was a charter member of her high school rifle team and was also a member of the Irwin Post 228 Junior rifle team. On two different occasions, she qualified to compete in the National Junior Olympic Rifle Championships at the Olympic Training Center at Colorado Springs. She won the bronze medal in the 2016 Pennsylvania Championships and took sixth overall in the NRA Open Air Gun Championship.
Mayo has direct ties to UT Martin athletics, as her grandfather Lee Mayo was a 2013 inductee into the school’s Hall of Fame after a successful football career that included a spot on the 1967 Tangerine Bowl squad. The Lawrenceville, Ga. native was a member of the Parkview High School rifle team and also shot for the Ole Mill Rangers rifle club. She was a member of the Georgia 4H championship squad and of the third-place Marine Corps Junior ROTC team.
A Lehighton, Pa. resident, Plocinik has trained at the National Junior Smallbore Camp at Camp Perry, Ohio while also competing in the prestigious Palmyra Invitational. She holds a NRA expert classification and took part in the Civilian Marksmanship Program Air Rifle National Championships earlier this month.
“Each of these student-athletes bring something of value to our program,” Beard said. “With All-American Dacotah Faught coming back to competition after redshirting last season and the contributions of these ladies, I believe we will have a really good year.”
