FOUR UT MARTIN COWBOYS QUALIFY FOR SATURDAY'S FINAL ROUND AT 2016 CNFR

CASPER, Wyo. – Tanner Phipps and Slade Bronson, both representatives of the University of Tennessee at Martin, rounded out their third go performances at the College National Finals Rodeo on Friday evening at the Casper Event Center.
Phipps completed his third round of bareback riding, compiling a score of 70.5. His average of 211.0 ranks ninth out of 36 cowboys in the event.
In tie down roping, Bronson took part in the third round of tie down roping, tallying a time of 14.1. His average of 39.8 ranked 11th out of 46 competitors in the event.
After six days of the 2016 CNFR, the UT Martin men’s team is in 10th place in the team standings with 255 points. Feather River College is in first place with 710 points.
Phipps (bareback riding), Ben Walker (tie down roping), Bronson (tie down roping), Lane Mitchell (team roping) will all compete for a national championship on Saturday, June 18, as the four UT Martin cowboys qualified for the finals by placing in the top-12 in their individual event.
Walker and Douglas Rich also competed in team roping but did not qualify for the finals, finishing 22nd out of 50 teams. Nealey Dalton also finished 17th out of 48 cowgirls in barrel racing, compiling a 43.52 average. Natalie Fletcher came in 42nd place out of 54 competitors in breakaway roping with a 3.1 on 1 average.
The seventh and final day of the 2016 CNFR will begin at 7 p.m. local time. The final round will be streamed live online on ESPN3 at the link above.
