UT MARTIN JUMPS INTO TIE FOR 10TH PLACE AFTER THIRD DAY OF 2016 CNFR

CASPER, Wyo. – The University of Tennessee at Martin accumulated 130 more points during Day 3 of the 2016 College National Finals Rodeo held at the Casper Events Center.
UT Martin has now compiled 215 points over the first three days of the weeklong CNFR. That mark is tied with Ranger College for 10th place out of 58 teams while Feather River College currently leads the way with 465 points.
Tanner Phipps posted a score of 74.0 in his second round of bareback riding, which was the third-best score of the 36 competitors in the event. He currently ranks 16th overall with a 140.5 average.
Ben Walker shot up the individual standings in tie down roping thanks to a pair of solid performances today. He started with a 13.7 time in the second round before coming back with an 8.3 in the third round, which is the fourth-best time in the entire event so far. He currently ranks second out of 46 cowboys with a 31.3 average. Slade Bronson also competed in tie down roping today, shaving nearly seven seconds off his first score with a 9.4 to rank 24th in the individual standings (25.7 average).
In team roping, the UT Martin duo of Walker and Douglas Rich amassed a time of 10.5 in the second round but did not compile a score in the third round. Walker and Rich currently sit in seventh place out of 50 teams with a 22.0 average. Lane Mitchell also completed his second round with an 11.4 time alongside East Mississippi’s Marcus Theriot. Mitchell and Theriot are in 22nd place with an average of 17.6 after the third day.
Nealey Dalton racked up a 14.64 time in the second round of barrel racing today. She ranks 29th out of 48 cowgirls with a 29.17 average in the event.
In breakaway roping, Natalie Fletcher did not compile a score during her second round performance. Her 3.1 average is tied for 38th place out of 54 cowgirls in the event.
Dalton is the only UT Martin representative who will compete on Wednesday, June 15, as she will take part in her third round of the barrel racing event. Tomorrow’s performance begins at 7 p.m. local time and will be streamed live on ESPN3 at the link above.
