GAME 1 OF UT MARTIN/EASTERN ILLINOIS SERIES POSTPONED UNTIL FRIDAY
May 15, 2014
MARTIN, Tenn. – Tonight’s baseball game between the University of Tennessee at Martin and Eastern Illinois University has been postponed after two-and-a-half innings. Action will resume in the top of the third inning on Friday, May 16 at 1 p.m., followed by a 30-minute intermission and then a 9-inning game.
Skyhawk starting pitcher Carter Smith had tossed three shutout innings but the field was cleared immediately after he recorded the third out in the top of the third. A lightning delay was then issued at 6:41 p.m. and both teams took shelter amidst a mix of hail and rain.
The tarp was then removed at 7:55 p.m. and after both coaching staffs conferred with the umpiring crew, the decision was made at 8:10 p.m. to postpone the game. Skyhawk second baseman Jake Deason will be at the plate to lead off the top of the third.
