MARTIN, Tenn. – Skyhawk head volleyball coach Darrin McClure has announced that Lael Ceriani and Madison Molitor have signed to join the University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball program. Both players will be eligible to play as freshmen next fall.

“I am excited about both players becoming a part of our program,” McClure said. “Both Lael and Madison come from great club volleyball programs that have prepared them for college.”

A 6-1 outside hitter, Ceriani capped off a remarkable prep career at Scripps Ranch High School in San Diego, Calif. by leading the Falcons to a 35-3 overall record, Western League championship and top-20 state ranking. Playing under head coach Ronni Olsen, Ceriani helped Scripps Ranch to their seventh section title in the last decade after being named a 2013 All-San Diego Section first teamer and Western League Player of the Year. She elevated her game in the biggest moments, tallying a match-high 21 kills against Poway in the CIF San Diego Section Division I semifinals.

Named as a “San Diego Section Player to Watch”, Ceriani earned all-tournament accolades while leading Scripps Ranch to a fifth place finish out of 41 teams in the 2013 LJHS Beach Cities Invitational. She helped guide the Falcons to a 7-1 record in that tournament, including a victory over eventual champion Vista Murrieta. She was also named Most Valuable Player of the Scripps Ranch Tournament after leading the Falcons to a tournament title.

“Lael has a unique skill set as a left handed player,” McClure said. “She can play left side or right side effectively. We will have her compete at both spots and I anticipate her to find time at either position.”

Molitor is coming off a stellar career for head coach Amanda McMeans at Klein Collins High School in Spring, Texas. A 6-0 middle blocker, Molitor was named a District 13-5A second team honoree this past season, leading the Tigers to a bi-district title and playoff appearance.

At the club level, Molitor played on Willowbrook 18’s Red team and won gold in US at the Big South Qualifer for a bid to 2014 nationals. She also helped her team to a first place finish at the Lone Star Regionals.

“Madison is a really hard working player,” McClure said. “It is neat to watch her play and it’s easy to see she loves being a middle and works hard at the position. Her presence in the middle will help us be more offensively efficient while at the same time adding a better defensive presence at the net.”

These two join Madison Bergren (incoming setter from Muncie, Ind.) in UT Martin’s signing class.
