RODEO TEAMS EACH BRING HOME TOP-FIVE FINISHES AT NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI

SENATOBIA, Miss. – The University of Tennessee at Martin rodeo teams completed a successful outing at Northwest Mississippi Community College over the weekend, as the men’s team finished second with 590 points and the women’s squad placed fifth with 140 points.
The UT Martin men’s team had a strong showing in bareback riding, with Tyler Waltz leading the way. Waltz finished first in average (155), first in the short go (82) and split first in the first go (73). Colt Kitaif placed second in the short go (80), split third in average (150) and placed fourth in the first go (70). Tanner Phipps rounded out UT Martin’s scoring with a split of first in the first go (73) before finishing in fourth in both the short go (75) and average (148).
In calf roping, Will Lummus came in fourth in both average (21.4) and in the short go (10.1). Clark Adcock also tallied points in average (21.6, fifth), short go (11.2, fifth) and first go (10.4, split sixth).
The women’s team was paced by Lucinda Fletcher and Jacy Thrasher in breakaway roping. Fletcher placed first in average (5.8), second in the first go (2.8) and in the short go (3) while Thrasher finished first in the first go (2.5) and sixth in average (2.5 on 1).
Lummus (4.5) and Jacob Dagenhart (6.7) finished first and second, respectively, in the first go of steer wrestling. Lummus would also record points in average (28.7, sixth) and in the short go (24.2, sixth).
Dagenhart partnered with Southern Arkansas’ Kelly Beahm in team roping, as the duo combined for a 6.0 (second place in the first go), 11.5 in the short go (third place) and 17.5 in average (split second).
A trio of UT Martin cowgirls performed well in barrel racing. Nealey Dalton finished second in average (28.96), first in the first go (14.37) and fourth in the short go (14.59). Madison Crow (14.42 first go) came in third place while Meredith McDonnell (14.52 short go, third; 29.29 average, fourth) also was responsible for points.
UT Martin now returns home for the 46th annual Spring College Rodeo from April 10-12. Action from the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. on all three nights.
