SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin golf team concluded its participation in the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate this afternoon, carding a 300 in the final round to finish in sixth place overall finish out of 12 teams.
All in all, the Skyhawks’ three-day total score came out to be 895 (+31) after a pair of solid rounds yesterday (299 in Round 1, 296 in Round 2). Tennessee won the team championship with a score of 853 (-11).
“It was a beautiful day with a good course, good weather and good greens,” UT Martin head coach Jerry Carpenter said. “We didn’t play well as a team today but you can chalk that one up to the coach. I didn’t think I did a good job of preparing our team for this tournament and I’ll take the blame for the loss. We’re on a valley right now but we are about to get things turned around to head the other direction where we need to be.”
Clay Harbin and John Michael Sisinni led UT Martin in the final round today with scores of 74 (+2 apiece). Ben Reeves, Austin Swafford and Tyler Shellnut were each responsible for rounds of 76 (+4) this morning.
For the tournament, Reeves finished with a 222 (+6), followed by Swafford’s 224 (+8). Harbin and Sisinni each put the finishing touches on a three-round total of 225 (+9) while Shellnut closed out the tournament with a 229 (+13).
Tyler Guy played as an individual this morning and performed quite well, shooting an even-par 72, which rounded out a 233 (+16) for the tournament.
The Skyhawks will return to the links on March 22-25 when they compete in the First Tee Classic, hosted by Arkansas-Little Rock.
