MEN'S HOOPS RETURNS TO ELAM CENTER TO FACE OVC WEST RIVAL EASTERN ILLINOIS ON THURSDAY

MARTIN, Tenn. - After a three-game stretch against the Ohio Valley Conference East division, the University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball team resumes OVC West play with a home matchup against the Eastern Illinois Panthers on Thursday, Jan. 23. Tipoff time from the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center is set for 7 p.m.
The Skyhawks (6-15, 1-5 OVC) are coming off an 82-75 loss at Morehead State last Saturday. UT Martin led for a majority of the first half and trailed by just two points with three minutes to play but the Eagles would close out the game with an 8-for-10 performance from the free throw line in the final 41 seconds. Mike Liabo accumulated a career-best 32 points in only 25 minutes off the bench to lead four Skyhawks who scored in double-figures.
Last Saturday, Eastern Illinois (6-12, 3-4 OVC) defeated Austin Peay by a 67-64 margin at home. The Panthers trailed by one at the halftime break before connecting on 60.9 percent (14-for-23) of their field goal attempts in the second half on their way to the victory. Reggie Smith tallied game-highs of 15 points and five assists for Eastern Illinois, while Luke Piotrowski and Sherman Blanford added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
