MEN'S HOOPS HOSTS DEFENDING LEAGUE CHAMPION BELMONT BRUINS IN OVC HOME OPENER SATURDAY

MARTIN, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball team returns home for the first time in three weeks when it hosts Ohio Valley Conference East member Belmont on Saturday, Jan. 11 at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
UT Martin has not lost a home game to the Bruins in nearly 43 years - an 84-80 Belmont victory on Jan. 30, 1971. This game will be the first time these two teams have squared off in Martin since Dec. 10, 1987.
The Skyhawks (5-13, 0-3 OVC) will go for their first OVC victory after a challenging three-game road start to their league schedule. Terence Smith led UT Martin with 19 points in its last game - a 91-77 loss at Murray State last Sunday. Marshun Newell (17), Myles Taylor (15) and Justin Childs (10) also scored double-figures.
Belmont (11-6, 3-0 OVC) currently leads the OVC in field goal percentage (.502), three-point field goal percentage (.399) and assists (16.11 per game). The Bruins - who boast a road victory at North Carolina on Nov. 17 - are coming off an impressive 107-94 road win at Southeast Missouri on Thursday. JJ Mann poured in 25 points for Belmont, who shot a sizzling 65 percent from three-point range (17-for-26).
