EQUESTRIAN TEAM SPLITS AGAINST NATIONALLY RANKED SOUTHERN METHODIST, KANSAS STATE

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian team completed a busy stretch at home this past weekend, defeating No. 10 Southern Methodist by an 11-8 margin on Friday before narrowly falling to No. 7 Kansas State 10-8 on Saturday.
Against Southern Methodist, the Skyhawks claimed a 6-4 advantage in Hunterseat. Kaylan Herbst (83 points), Erin Douglas (83 points) and Reid Rickett (75 points) earned points in equitation while Nora Wilson (73 points), Rickett (77 points) and Hunter Ralston (82 points) were responsible for UT Martin’s points in equitation over fences.
In the Western discipline, the Skyhawks chalked up two MOP’s and a 5-4 edge in team scoring against Southern Methodist. Laurel Ellzey earned an MOP honor with a 73.5 point ride in horsemanship, while Brittany Woodard and Katie Kallevig captured points with rides of 68 and 72.5 points, respectively. Sam Knight accounted for an MOP ride in reining with 72 points while Megan Marie Foley (72 points) also picked up a point for UT Martin.
The next day against Kansas State, the Skyhawks earned three points in Hunterseat. Ralston’s 88-point ride in equitation resulted in a point for UT Martin while Rickett (65 points) and Caitlyn Epperson (74 points) amassed points in equitation over fences.
UT Martin was responsible for five of the nine points divvied out in the Western discipline. Woodard racked up an MOP accolade with a 72.5 point ride in horsemanship while Ellzey (71.5 points) also recorded a point. Foley’s 71.5 point ride in reining resulted in an MOP honor while Melanie Aiosa (69 points) and Laney Hixson (69.5 points) accumulated a point apiece for the Skyhawks.
The Skyhawks return to action when they square off against Miami (Ohio) on Friday, Nov. 15 at 10 a.m. in the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion.
