VOLLEYBALL TEAM HOSTS AUSTIN PEAY, MURRAY STATE THIS WEEKEND; SENIOR DAY SET FOR SATURDAY

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball team concludes the home portion of its 2013 schedule this weekend when it hosts Austin Peay on Friday, Nov. 8 and Murray State on Saturday, Nov. 9. The Austin Peay match is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. while first serve for the Murray State match is set for 2 p.m.
Saturday’s match will serve as Senior Day for UT Martin, as senior Kelly Hogan will be honored with a pregame ceremony. Despite battling injuries for the majority of the past two seasons, Hogan has played in 105 career matches (375 sets), accounting for 539 kills, 829 digs, 94 blocks, 93 assists and 42 service aces.
The Skyhawks have played both Austin Peay and Murray State on the road earlier this season. UT Martin fell to Austin Peay by a 3-0 margin (17-25, 23-25, 16-25) on Oct. 12, one day after a 3-1 loss to Murray State (20-25, 25-16, 17-25, 21-25).
Against the Lady Govs, Madison Wessling led UT Martin with a match-high 11 kills. Amanda Crask handed out a match-high 31 assists while Chelsea Bowles scooped up 13 digs to pace the Skyhawks.
In the earlier matchup at Murray State, it was Wessling who once again led the Skyhawks with 10 kills while Crask recorded eight kills, 33 assists and nine digs. Defensively, Emily Keaton accounted for a team-best 14 digs while Lynsey Hazelwood and Bowles each chalked up a dozen digs.
Austin Peay (10-19, 7-5 OVC) enters this weekend having lost four of its last five matches. The Lady Govs are coming off a 3-0 nonconference loss to Middle Tennessee on Tuesday. Lauren Henderson guided Austin Peay with 11 kills while April Adams’ nine digs ranked as a team-high.
Jada Stotts ranks second in the OVC in kills (3.64 per set) and points (4.15 per set) to lead the Lady Govs offensively. Cami Fields (8.41 assists per set) and Aubrey Marsellis (4.10 per set) split the setter duties while Stotts (226 digs, 3.37 per set) and Adams (308 digs, 3.14 per set) pace Austin Peay defensively.
Murray State (13-13, 3-9 OVC) has lost six of its last seven matches since the early season meeting against the Skyhawks. The Racers fell to Tennessee State (3-0) and Belmont (3-1) at home last weekend.
Alyssa Lelm ranks in the top-10 in three OVC statistical categories, including hitting percentage (.338, third), kills (3.09 per set, seventh) and points (3.54 per set, eighth). Sam Bedard’s 9.78 assists per set rank fifth in the OVC while Katlyn Hudson ranks ninth in the league in digs (4.17 per set).
