SKYHAWK CROSS COUNTRY MAKES STRIDES IN FRONTRUNNER INVITATIONAL

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin cross country squads wrapped up their fourth meet of the fall and final tune up before the Ohio Valley Conference Championships this past weekend at the Frontrunner Invitational hosted by Chattanooga.
The men’s team was led by sophomore Justin Morgan who placed 14th with a 5K time of 15:34.39. Dalton Hudlow and Colin Johnson finished back to back with times of 15:52.83 and 15:55.31, respectively.
Other UT Martin finishers include freshman Joey DeSantis (16:11.63), sophomore Alazar Haile (16:45.87), senior Vance Pounders (17:35.50), sophomore Zach Phifer (17:51.64), sophomore Mark Graubner (17:58.64), junior Josiah Roberts (18:02.98) and Aaron Hall (18:29.09).
The women’s team was led by sophomore Hayley Doty who placed 25th with a two mile time of 12:08.22. Junior Grace Lucas (12:29.72) was trailed by senior Hannah Wolters with a time of 12:40.49.
Other UT Martin finishers include sophomore Abby Frantom (12:52.37), sophomore Alexandra Stover (12:50.07), sophomore Kaycee Grimes (12:59.69) and freshman Heather Mullis (13:02.98). Freshmen Olivia Owens (13:18.13) and Marne Helbing (13:47.96) rounded out the field for the Skyhawks.
“The half dozen personal bests and few other near misses were good news of very solid performances by both teams,” said UT Martin cross country coach Gordon Sanders. “Alazar was the surprise scorer for the men and Grace is improving by leaps and bounds to be an important scorer for the ladies. There is little left to the season except sharpening now.”
The Skyhawks will now look to the Ohio Valley Conference Championships to be held in Morehead, Ky. The OVC Championships are slated for Saturday, Nov. 2.
