COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team battled until the end to knock off Ohio Valley Conference foe Tennessee Tech, 2-1, in double overtime. The win wrapped up the road slate for the Skyhawks to continue their season-long five-game win streak.

The Skyhawks (7-7-1, 5-1 OVC) used a pair of goals by juniors Alyssa Curtis and Dominika Conc to continue climbing the conference standings. Freshman Aoife Lennon led the Skyhawks with five shots, placing three shots on goal. Curtis and Conc each tallied four shots on the evening, tallying their second goals of the season. Freshman Ellie Myrick was credited for one assist, her team leading third of the season.

Senior Sarah Tompkins got her second career start in goal for the Skyhawks, playing the full 110 minutes. Tompkins tallied two saves on the afternoon, allowing one goal.

The Skyhawks tallied the first two shots of the game, wasting little time getting on the board. Myrick placed a perfect cross into the box as Curtis placed the opening goal into the lower left corner of the goal in the 16th minute. The strike by Curtis was her second goal of the season while Myrick tallied the assist.

Tennessee Tech (3-11-1, 1-4-1 OVC) would try to get on the board in the 20th minute as Abi Gearing fired an attempt into the box which Tompkins would coral for the game’s first save. UT Martin would proceed to outshoot Tennessee Tech 9-1 in the first period.

The Skyhawk would come out in the second half looking to pad their lead, firing the first five shots of the second period. The Golden Eagles would stay tough, tallying three consecutive saves over a three minute span.

UT Martin and Tennessee Tech would trade shot attempts as the minutes dwindled. The Skyhawks, looking for their third consecutive clean sheet, nearly completed the task before the Golden Eagles found the game’s equalizer at the 89:52 mark.

Tennessee Tech’s leading attacker Ellie Iaciofano would track down goalkeeper Jordan Brown’s punt as time ticked down, setting up a one-on-one with Tompkins. Iaciofano would beat the keeper to knot the game at 1-1 with eight seconds to play in regulation, her fourth goal of the season.

The OVC foes would battle through a scoreless first overtime period before Conc tallied the Skyhawks first golden goal on the year. Conc controlled the ball on the right wing, dribbling through several defenders to rifle the game-winner into the lower left corner of the net.

UT Martin will look to build on their five-game winning streak as they close out the regular season with four consecutive home contests. The Skyhawks will begin their home stretch on Sunday, Oct. 20 against Belmont. Action from Skyhawk Field is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
