SKYHAWK SOCCER LOOKS TO BUILD ON FOUR-GAME WIN STREAK WITH PAIR OF OVC MATCHES

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team will make their final road trip of the season this weekend as they travel to Ohio Valley Conference foe Tennessee Tech on Friday, Oct. 18 at 3 p.m. before beginning a season-long four-game home stand against Belmont on Sunday at 2 p.m.
UT Martin (6-7-1, 4-1 OVC) will look to build upon their season-best four game winning streak as they face off against Tennessee Tech and Belmont over the weekend. The Skyhawks are coming off the program’s first weekend sweep of Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky on the road, outscoring their opponent 4-0, notching two shutouts.
Offensively, senior Abi Sanvee leads the squad with four goals on the year while freshman Aoife Lennon trails just behind with three strikes. The duo has combined for five of the six game-winning goals for the Skyhawks. Trailing is the trio of Michelle Calmeyn, Ellie Myrick and Ashlie Watson with two goals each.
Defensively, the Skyhawks are led by junior Lucy Pater, who was named OVC Defensive Player of the Week for her performance this past weekend. Along with Pater’s defensive presence, she tallied two assists over the two matches. It was Pater’s touch off a pair of corners which set up her teammates for goals. The Brentwood native has seen action in 1266 of the team’s 1280 minutes this year, leading the Skyhawks in that category.
In goal, Mariah Klenke leads the team with 1122:36 minutes in goal. Klenke has notched four shutouts on the season while tallying 67 saves. She has allowed just 15 goals, maintaining a goals against average of 1.20 per game.
Tennessee Tech (3-10-1, 1-3-1 OVC) comes into the weekend after snapping a three-match losing streak this past Sunday with a scoreless draw at Jacksonville State. The Golden Eagles are led by senior Ellie Iaciofano who paces the team with three goals and four assists, scoring 10 total points. TTU turns to sophomore Jordan Brown in goal. Brown has tallied three shutouts on the year while posting a 1.87 GAA.
Belmont (4-6-2, 2-2-1 OVC) heads into the weekend as winners of two of its last three matches. The Bruins are led in scoring by Allie Hicks and Alison Alcott who have found the back of the net three times each. Belmont relies on senior Nicole Berner in goal, logging 1,063 minutes while posting a 2.11 GAA with 49 saves.
