HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. – The University of Tennessee at Martin golf team shot an 8-under 568 in the first two rounds of the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate at the Links at Novadell.
The Skyhawks shot an even-par 288 in the first round before making a charge with a second round score of 280 (-8). UT Martin sits a mere two shots out of third place while fellow Ohio Valley Conference member Belmont leads with a score of 555 (-21).
“We had a good first two rounds,” UT Martin head coach Jerry Carpenter said. “Anytime we can shoot even or under par as a team, that means you have played well. At one point in the first round we were eight-over as a team but we turned it around and wound up making some birdies to get back to even. Some of the other teams shot lights out but we have a chance to move up tomorrow.”
Reigning adidas OVC Golfer of the Week Tyler Guy paced the Skyhawks this afternoon, finishing fourth out of 87 golfers with a score of 139 (-5). The sophomore out of Clarksville carded rounds of 70 and 69.
Fellow sophomore Ben Reeves (142, -2) was the next highest finisher for UT Martin, finishing with scores of 72 and 70. Brendon Caballero also finished under par for the Skyhawks today, firing a 143 (-1) with rounds of 72 and 71.
Austin Swafford (144, E), Peyton Deming (146, +2), John Michael Sisinni (148, +4), Gavin Shellnut (149, +5) and Tyler Shellnut (150, +6) also represented UT Martin in the tournament.
The third and final round will start on Tuesday morning.
