SOCCER RETURNS TO SKYHAWK FIELD FOR OVC HOME OPENER AGAINST JACKSONVILLE STATE

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team is set to return to the friendly confines of Skyhawk Field. After a four-game road swing, seeing stops in four states, the Skyhawks look to build upon their recent success as they play host to Ohio Valley Conference foe Jacksonville State on Friday, Oct. 4 at 6:30 p.m.
The Skyhawks (3-7-1, 1-1 OVC) look to continue their winning ways after splitting last weekend’s opening OVC action. UT Martin dropped the conference opener 2-1 at Austin Peay on Friday before making the short jog to Murray State on Sunday, earning the 2-1 victory. Ellie Myrick, Abi Sanvee and Dominika Conc each tallied one goal on the weekend.
Sanvee leads the Skyhawk with three goals on the season, scoring in each of the team’s three wins, including two game winners. Myrick joins Hannah McGowen, Michelle Calmeyn, Alyssa Curtis, Aoife Lennon and Conc with one goal apiece. Myrick leads the team with two assists while McGowen and Calmeyn have each added one.
Skyhawk goalkeeper Mariah Klenke has been stingy in goal, allowing just 15 goals while recording 63 saves and registering three shutouts on the season.
Jacksonville State enters its first OVC road trip at 4-6-1 on the season and looking for its first conference win of the season after falling at home last weekend to Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State.
Through the first 11 matches of the season, JSU leads the OVC in shots taken and among the conference leaders in goals scored with 13 on the season. The Gamecocks have taken 186 shots on the season and averaging 16.91 shots per match. JSU's total goals ranks tied for third in the league with SIU Edwardsville. Individually, junior Jackie Rush leads the OVC in shots taken with 54 and averages 4.91 shots per outing. Sophomore Kelsey Bright is listed fourth among the conference leaders. Rush, who scored her fifth goal of the season last Sunday, ranks fourth in the league in goals scored.
UT Martin holds a 6-3-2 lead in the series between the two programs and have claimed six of the last seven matches against Jacksonville State.
