MARTIN, Tenn. – A blood drive on the University of Tennessee at Martin campus sponsored by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) was a rousing success, as nearly 400 people gave blood in order to help save lives.

The blood drive, which took place outside the Boling University Center on Sept. 24-26, helped Lifeline stock its shelves. A total of 206 people gave blood (57 deferred) on Day 1 of the blood drive, followed by 163 people (53 deferred) on Day 2. On the third and final day, another 29 people came to give blood while seven deferred.

All in all, 398 people gave blood – an increase from last year – and 117 donors deferred.

“We would like to thank everybody who came out to help save lives,” said Danelle Fabianich, UT Martin SAAC advisor and assistant athletics director. “We had a great turnout to help fight this battle.”

The next university blood drive is scheduled for Nov. 19-20 in the Boling University Center.

SAAC is a leadership group made up of representatives from each of the 17 UT Martin athletic teams that provides an outlet for student-athletes to deal with the rigors of student-athlete life. The group serves as a liaison between the student-athlete population and the coaches, administration, Ohio Valley Conference and other related parties.
