SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – The University of Tennessee at Martin golf team made a move in the final round of the Cardinal Intercollegiate this morning, shooting a 296 (+8) to round out an overall performance of 892 (+28).

UT Martin led all teams with 20 birdies this morning. The last-round surge moved the Skyhawks into a ninth place finish out of 15 teams. Host Louisville won the tournament and was the only team under par, firing an 860 (-4).

“We played a better round of golf today,” UT Martin head coach Jerry Carpenter said. “We still made a few mistakes but the course was equally tough today as it was for the first two rounds. All in all, I’m proud of the way we came back and beat some good golf teams today.”

Clay Harbin led the Skyhawks in today’s round, carding six birdies to lead all 84 participants in the field. He finished with an even-par 72 to rank first out of the five UT Martin golfers in the third round.

Brendon Caballero shot a 73 (+1) today to finish with a tournament tally of 221 (+5). The next best finisher for the Skyhawks was Ben Reeves (75, +3), who earned a 16th place finish for the tournament after shooting a 219 (+3) for 54 holes.

John Michael Sisinni (76 third round, 230 total; +14) and Tyler Shellnut (77, 233, +17) rounded out the scoring for UT Martin.

The Skyhawks return to action next week when they make the short trek to Miller Golf Course for the Murray State Invitational, which will take place on Sept. 29-Oct. 1.
