MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s soccer team is prepared to play a bit shorthanded as the Skyhawks open Ohio Valley Conference action this weekend. Junior midfielder Dominika Conc is set to the join the Slovenia national team as her home nation competes in the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifier.

Slovenia is currently sitting tied for third heading into the Thursday, Sept. 26 matchup with rival Slovakia. Slovenia is joined in Group 1 with Germany, Russia, Republic of Ireland, Slovakia and Croatia, striving to earn a berth in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Maribor, Slovenia native has been a model of consistency for the Skyhawks during her decorated career. Conc has played in 51 games in three seasons while earning the starting nod in 33. She has been an offensive threat for UT Martin, scoring seven goals while dishing out five assists.

During her three seasons as a Skyhawk, UT Martin has won the program’s first outright OVC championship along with two consecutive OVC Tournament championships and NCAA Tournament appearances. The Skyhawks have reached new program limits during Conc’s tenure, setting new highs in matches played, victories, highest winning percentage, longest winning streak, points, assists, shots and shutouts.

“As much as the timing is a major discomfort to our team as we prepare for our biggest game of the season with it being our first conference game Friday against Austin Peay, we are thrilled for Dominika to experience the honor of representing her national team, especially in a World Cup qualifying game,” said UT Martin head soccer coach Phil McNamara. “We call Dominika our professional soccer player because she is so dedicated to compete and succeed.”

“She is the first to arrive at the field and the last to leave,” McNamara continued. “On game days you can find her in a corner, juggling a ball with her headphones on. Dominika loves the game and is willing to do whatever it takes to be successful.”

“Dominika is a coach’s dream. We wish her success Thursday and expect her to be available for Sunday’s game at Murray State. This is a great opportunity for Dominika and excellent exposure for our UT Martin soccer program on the world stage.”
