FINAL OZARK REGION RANKINGS RELEASED; 13 UTM COWBOYS/COWGIRLS SET FOR CNFR

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men’s rodeo team has officially clinched a spot in the upcoming College National Finals Rodeo, winning the Ozark Region with 7,465 points in its 10 rodeos this season.

UT Martin captured the Ozark Region title by 3,145 points. In the national standings updated on April 15, UT Martin is ranked No. 2 in the country behind the College of Southern Idaho.

A total of 13 UT Martin cowboys and cowgirls will be making the trip to the CNFR, which will be held in Casper, Wyo. on June 9-15. Representing the UT Martin men’s team will be Clark Adcock, John Alley, Jacob Dagenhart, Ty Hughston, Robert Joyce, Will Lummus, Clay Mitchell, Lane Mitchell, Jordan Thrasher, Ben Walker and Tyler Waltz. On the women’s side, Natalie Fletcher and Mary Francis Gorsuch have also qualified for the CNFR.

The following members of the UT Martin rodeo team won Ozark regional awards: Waltz (bareback champion); Hughston (saddle bronc champion); Lummus (steer wrestling champion); Adcock (team roping champion); Alley (all-around cowboy champion, team roping champion); Dagenhart (second in saddle bronc); Joyce (tied for second in steer wrestling); Thrasher (second in tie-down roping, tied for second in steer wrestling); Walker (second in all-around cowboy, second in team roping, third in tie-down roping); Fletcher (third in breakaway roping); Clay Mitchell (third in team roping); Lane Mitchell (third in team roping) and Gorsuch (third in barrel racing).

Alley’s horse – Rodeo Red – also won horse of the year, while UT Martin head coach John Luthi brought home coach of the year accolades. The 45th annual UT Martin spring rodeo was also named rodeo of the year for the eighth consecutive season.

Adcock and Alley (first in team roping), Waltz (second in bareback), Lummus (sixth in steer wrestling), Walker (sixth in team roping), Alley (seventh in all-around cowboy), Clay Mitchell (eighth in team roping), Lane Mitchell (ninth in team roping) and Hughston (ninth in saddle bronc) are all currently ranked in the top-10 in the nation in their respective events.
