MARTIN, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team heads to Reagan Field for its first Ohio Valley Conference road test of the 2013 campaign when it clashes with the Murray State Thoroughbreds this weekend. First pitch times are as follows: 3 p.m. on Friday, March 15; 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 16 and 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 17.

The Skyhawks (7-9, 1-2 OVC) are coming off a 4-3 midweek victory over in-state rival Lipscomb on Tuesday. In that game, UT Martin fell behind 2-0 after the first inning before the pitching staff settled down to allow just one unearned run for the duration of the contest, capped off with Stu Jones’ fourth save of the season. At the plate, Grant Glasser and Matt Haynes each had two hits while Phil Sorensen crossed the plate twice for the Skyhawks.

Offensively, UT Martin is led by senior first baseman Wade Collins, who currently rankes fourth in the OVC in slugging (.547) and seventh in batting average (.358). Phil Sorensen (.325), Glasser (.320) and Byron Johann (.314) round out the Skyhawk regulars who hit above .300.

Against Murray State, UT Martin will start senior right-hander Dan Tobik (1-1, 3.86 ERA) in Game 1, followed by sophomore left-handers Taylor Cox (0-1, 3.44) and Dalton Potts (2-1, 4.20) in Games 2 and 3, respectively. Tobik is coming off his first victory of the season last weekend against Jacksonville State, while Cox leads the OVC in called strikeouts (12). Potts is limiting the opposition to a .228 batting average while issuing only five walks (against 15 strikeouts) in 15 innings spread out over four appearances.

The ‘Breds (7-10, 1-2 OVC) are coming off a midweek series split against Northern Illinois, winning 7-1 on Tuesday before falling 8-4 on Wednesday.

Brandon Eggenschwiler leads the Murray State regulars in batting average (.388), slugging percentage (.493) and on-base percentage (.455). Ty Stetson hits .319 for the ‘Breds while Mike Kozlowski leads the team with 16 runs scored.
