WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER NAMED MADNESS MID-MAJOR, OVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

MARTIN, Tenn. –Jasmine Newsome, a guard on The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team, has been named College Sports Madness’ Mid-Major Player of the Week and Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for her effort this past week against Tennessee State and Murray State.

Newsome, from Millington, averaged 31 points, 5.5 rebounds and two steals a game. The junior guard shot 48 percent from the field, 50 percent from 3-point range and she made all 10 of her free throw attempts.

Newsome helped lead the Skyhawks to a 77-58 victory over Tennessee State and a 72-60 win against Murray State.

UT Martin is now 14-14 overall and 9-5 in the OVC. The Skyhawks will close out the home portion of their season Thursday, Feb. 28, when they host Eastern Illinois in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
