MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM RETURNS TO ELAM CENTER FOR CLASH AGAINST OVC RIVAL MOREHEAD STATE
January 18, 2013
MARTIN, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball team hosts Morehead State in an Ohio Valley Conference tilt at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center. Tip-off on Saturday, Jan. 19 is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Historically, these two teams have been involved in several nailbiters when battling in the Elam Center. Eleven of the 19 contests in Martin have been decided by single-digits - seven of which have been decided by five points or less.
The trend of close games continued in these two team’s lone meeting last year, as Morehead State pulled off a 62-56 home win on Jan. 21, 2012. Mike Liabo’s 12 points, career-high nine rebounds and four assists led the Skyhawks (4-14, 1-5 OVC), who sank 17 of their 18 free throw attempts (94.8 percent) in that contest.
Morehead State (9-10, 3-2 OVC) is coming off a 75-59 road victory at Southeast Missouri on Thursday night. In that game, the Eagles - who pace the OVC in rebounding (38.2 per game) and rebounding margin (+5.4) - won the battle of the boards by a 45-23 margin.
Drew Kelly’s 15 points led four double-digit scorers for Morehead State, who sank 21 free throws in the second half alone to help the Eagles break a 34-34 tie at the halftime break.
