MARTIN, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball team faces in-state rival and Ohio Valley Conference newcomer Belmont for the first time in over 25 years when the two teams square off on Saturday, Jan. 12 at the Curb Event Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.

The Skyhawks hold a 20-11 series advantage over the Bruins but have not played since Dec. 10, 1987 when both teams were non-NCAA Division-I members. The majority of the meetings between these two squads took place in the 1960’s when both teams were members of the Volunteer State Athletic Conference.

UT Martin (4-13, 1-4 OVC) is coming off an 80-48 loss at Tennessee State on Thursday. In that game, Myles Taylor accounted for over half of the Skyhawks’ points, pouring in a season-best 25 points to go along with a team-high six rebounds.

Belmont (12-4, 3-0 OVC) officially joined the OVC on July 1, 2012 and has won each of its three league contests by an average of 25.7 points per game. The Bruins downed Southeast Missouri by a 107-72 margin on Thursday evening, shooting a sizzling 61.5 percent. Ian Clark and Trevor Noack each scored 30 points to lead Belmont, while Kerron Johnson (13 points) and JJ Mann (11) also reached double-figures.
