GUARD NAMED ADIDAS OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE PLAYER OF WEEK

MARTIN, Tenn. – Jasmine Newsome, a junior guard from Millington, has been named adidas Ohio Valley Conference Co-Player of the Week for her effort in the Jack in the Box Rainbow Wahine Classic in Hawaii this past weekend.

Newsome averaged 20.3 points, six rebounds and 5.7 assists in the three games. She led the team in assists in every game, including dishing out seven against No. 1 Baylor. Newsome combined with Heather Butler to score 135 of the Skyhawks 204 points during the tourney. Newsome led the team with 25 points in the loss to Hawaii and followed that up with 24 against Baylor and 12 versus No. 4 Stanford.

This is the second consecutive week Newsome has won the league honor.

Tennessee Tech’s Diamond Henderson, from Kennesaw, Ga., was the co-player of the week. She recorded 26 points per game as Tech split games this past week. She came off the bench in the loss to Akron and scored a career-high 31 points. In the win over Rice, she recorded 21 points, a career-high six assists and a career best four steals.
