UT MARTIN SOFTBALL TO CLOSE OUT REGULAR SEASON AGAINST BELMONT SUNDAY

The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team will conclude the regular season with a doubleheader matchup against Ohio Valley Conference opponent Belmont on Sunday, May 6. First pitch from Bettye Giles Field is scheduled for noon.
The Skyhawks (25-28, 9-11 OVC) enter the weekend looking to close out the regular season on a strong note while building towards next week’s OVC Softball Championship to be played at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala. from May 9-12. As one of the league’s most consistent programs, UT Martin has secured a berth to the squad’s 16th OVC Softball Championship under the direction of head coach Donley Canary.
UT Martin is led by the upperclassmen group of Jodie Duncan, Lauren Myers, Alli Fulcher and Aeron Smith offensively. Duncan paces the squad with a .302 batting average, 49 hits and 26 RBIs on the year while Myers has been on fire during league action, notching a .397 batting average while swiping 11 stolen bases during the 20-game slate. Fulcher had posted a .292 batting average while pacing the squad with five home runs. Smith rounds out the group with a .286 average and 11 doubles.
The Skyhawks will go with the starting duo of Caitlin Karo and Hannah Ridolfi in the circle for the season finale. Karo (16-9, 2.77 ERA) has won 16 games – a school record for a freshman - while ranking eighth on the program’s single-season wins list. Meanwhile, Ridolfi (9-16, 2.56 ERA) has tossed three shutouts while pacing the squad with 164 innings of work.
Belmont enters the weekend with a 22-24 overall record and 3-15 mark in league play with a doubleheader against Tennessee State scheduled for Friday afternoon. The Bruins are on the outside of the tournament field but boast a pair of strong hitting options in Lexi Rouse (.319 average, 10 doubles, eight home runs and 26 RBIs) and Jess Andree (.312 average, eight home runs, 27 RBIs) to lead the team offensively. Meanwhile standout Brooklin Lee (12-12, 1.89 ERA) paces the pitching staff.
The two programs have met 35 times in series history heading into the weekend with the UT Martin holding a 28-7 overall record against Belmont. The Skyhawks have won four straight against the Bruins while posting a 19-1 record against their opponent under the direction of Canary.
