UT MARTIN SOFTBALL TO HONOR SENIORS PRIOR TO MATCHUP AGAINST TENNESSEE STATE

The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team will honors its five seniors prior to first pitch of Sunday’s doubleheader against Ohio Valley Conference foe Tennessee State. First pitch from Bettye Giles Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
The Skyhawks (23-28, 7-11 OVC) enter the final two league doubleheader with their eye on clinching yet another trip to the OVC Softball Championship held in Oxford, Ala. on May 9-12.
Prior to the matchup, UT Martin will honor its five graduating seniors which include Savannah Dodson, Jodie Duncan, Alicia Hansen, Aeron Smith and Rachel Williams. The Class of 2018 has earned berths in back-to-back OVC tournaments while tallying 116 career victories. Together, the senior class has combined for 535 hits, 31 home runs, 308 RBIs, 163 stolen bases and 264 runs scored over their four-year Skyhawk careers.
Tennessee State enters the weekend boasting a 3-42 overall mark while looking for its first win in league play with a 0-14 mark. The Tigers will play at Southeast Missouri on Saturday before Sunday’s matchup. The squad is led offensively by the play of Sarah Snell with a .276 batting average while Katie Schneider paces the squad with nine doubles and 11 RBIs. Lauren Powell paces the pitching staff with a 2-21 record and 4.83 ERA in 133.1 innings of work.
UT Martin holds a 61-7 series advantage over Tennessee State with matchups dating back to 1987. The Skyhawks have won eight straight in the series while possessing a 26-2 mark against the Tigers at home.
