SKYHAWK SOFTBALL TO HIT ROAD FOR PAIR OF OVC DOUBLEHEADERS OVER WEEKEND

The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team will hit the road for its final road Ohio Valley Conference matchups of the season with a pair of doubleheaders at Eastern Kentucky on Saturday, Apr. 21 and at Morehead State on Sunday, Apr. 22.
The Skyhawks (22-24, 6-8 OVC) enter the second to last weekend of the season currently in seventh place in the team’s quest for a berth in next month’s OVC Softball Championship. In the team’s last league matchup, the Skyhawks split the series against Southeast Missouri after limiting the high-powered Redhawk offense to just one run. UT Martin tallied 15 base hits while the pitching staff posted a 0.49 ERA in 14.1 innings of work.
Senior Jodie Duncan returned to form, tallying four hits in the series while junior Lauren Myers also tallied four hits of her own. Duncan currently leads the team with a .321 batting average while Myers has impressed in league play, notching a .375 average of her own with three extra base hits and four RBIs while notching seven stolen bases. Gracyn McBride is also coming off a strong string of contests, with a .417 batting average, a double, a home run and six RBIs over the past seven games.
Freshman Caitlin Karo (14-8, 2.20 ERA) paces the pitching staff while notching her third shutout of the season in a 4-0 decision against Southeast Missouri. Sophomore Hannah Ridolfi (8-13, 2.32 ERA) has also been strong, tossing a pair of shutouts herself while pacing the staff with 145.0 innings pitched on the year.
Eastern Kentucky (25-14, 7-1 OVC) enters the weekend sitting in second place in the league standings with just one loss coming in OVC play. Paige Murphy leads the league with a .520 batting average in OVC play while posting a .436 average on the season with nine doubles, 13 home runs and 37 RBIs while swiping 16 stolen bases. Hannah Clark also poses a deep threat, tallying 11 home runs and 36 RBIs on the year. Look for the Colonels to go with Mollie Paulick (10-5, 2.40 ERA) to pace the pitching staff after earning OVC Pitcher of the Week honors following a no-hitter against Tennessee State last week.
Morehead State (22-12, 3-5 OVC) enters the weekend on the outside looking in for the final spot in the OVC Softball Championship, currently sitting ninth in the league standings with just three victories. The pair of Taylor Wheeler (.342, four doubles, four home runs and 13 RBIs) and Ellen Barrett (.341, five doubles, five home runs and 14 RBIs) pace the Eagles offensively. Meanwhile, pitching standout Chelsea McManaway paces the staff with a 14-5 overall record and 2.02 ERA in 128.1 innings of work.
