UT MARTIN SOFTBALL OPENS BIG ROAD WEEK AT SOUTHEAST MISSOURI ON TUESDAY
April 16, 2018
Live Stats: Game One Game Two
The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team will hit the road for the first of three consecutive Ohio Valley Conference doubleheaders this week, beginning with a twinbill against league foe Southeast Missouri on Tuesday, Apr. 17. First pitch from Cape Girardeau is scheduled for 3 p.m.
The Skyhawks (21-23, 5-7) enter the matchups having won four of their last five games, including a split against previously undefeated Eastern Illinois on Friday afternoon. UT Martin gave the Panthers their first conference loss of the season while snapping a 10-game winning streak by simply outhitting the visitors in Game One. While both squads battled in the second half of the doubleheader, EIU would salvage a road split with a four-run third inning which proved to be the difference in the contest.
Junior Gracyn McBride paced the Skyhawk offense last week with a .421 batting average, tallying hits in eight of 19 at-bats while scoring one run, tallying a home run and driving in three. Freshman Paige Clark ranked second on the team with six base hits while driving in three and swiping three stolen bases. Junior Lauren Myers also drove in three RBIs on the week – including a pair of triples.
Freshman Caitlin Karo (13-8, 2.32 ERA) was strong on the week, picking up three victories in 20 innings of work. Meanwhile, Hannah Ridolif (8-12, 2.39 ERA) ranks as the team’s other starting option and is just a week removed from her second shutout of the season against Murray State.
Southeast Missouri (24-15, 8-4 OVC) enters the matchup looking to build upon a two-game sweep of SIUE over the weekend. The Redhawks have won five of their last seven conference games and boasted a talented offense which has tallied 32 home runs and 182 RBIs on the season. Mykaea Arellanes paces the team with a .360 batting average while the quartet of Sarah Messex (7 HRs, 30 RBIs), Abby Tillotson (6 HRs, 29 RBIs), Addison Barnouski (6 HRs, 19 RBIs) and Ashley Ellis (5 HRs, 20 RBIs) provide the thump in the lineup.
The Redhawks are expected to start pitchers Madeline Krumrey (10-5, 3.98 ERA) and Haley Thogmartin (8-6, 2.75 ERA) in the circle. Krumrey paces the squad with 20 starts and 107.1 innings of work while Thogmartin has tossed 76.1 innings of action.
Despite Southeast Missouri holding a 53-42 series advantage of UT Martin, the Skyhawks have held their own as of late, posting a 35-17 record against the Redhawks under head coach Donley Canary.
