MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team has shuffled this weekend’s schedule at Central Arkansas due to the threat of rain.
A doubleheader will now be played on Saturday, April 14 beginning at 1 p.m. with Game 2 set to start at 4 p.m. Sunday’s matchup is still slated to begin on Sunday, April 15 at 1 p.m.
The Skyhawks are led by junior outfielder Jordan Stoner (.339 batting average, three home runs and 11 RBIs). Freshman backstop Blake Davis (.276 batting average, three home runs and 14 RBIs) looks to tote a hot bat as he tallied a .545 batting average and 1.583 OPS at Morehead State last week. He also racked up a pair of hits against system rival Tennessee on Wednesday while driving in the squad’s only run.
The duo of Ethan Whitley and Carson Shrode have accounted for a team-high six home runs each while also driving in 22 and 18 runs, respectively. A total of nine UT Martin batters have tallied double digit RBI numbers and the same group has also hit at least one home run on the season.
Left handed pitcher Dom Bazzani (1-2, 9.00 ERA) will get the starting nod in Friday’s game. Righty Winston Cannon (0-5, 11.12 ERA) will be called on for the start on Saturday. Southpaw Sam Folks (1-4, 9.92 ERA) will toe the rubber in the Sunday matchup. Lefty reliever Konnor Aherin (2-2, 6.50 ERA and team-best one save) has been the anchor of the Skyhawk bullpen.
Central Arkansas is led by Rigo Aguilar (.364 batting average, one home run and 24 RBIs) and Hunter Strong (.338 batting average, two home runs and 19 RBIs). The tandem of Josh Somdecerff and Keaton Presley have belted in a team-best five home runs each and driven in a combined 46 RBIs on the season. A total of eight Bears have accumulated double digit RBIs while four have eclipsed the 20-RBI mark.
Right handed pitcher Tanner Wiley (2-1, 2.80 ERA) looks to get the start for Central Arkansas in Game 1 of Saturday’s doubleheader. Righty Tyler Gray (3-0, 2.52 ERA) is slated get the start on the bump in Game 2 of the twinbill. Right hander Cody Davenport (3-1, 3.76 ERA) is the projected starting pitcher for the contest on Sunday. Right handed reliever Mark Moyer (4-3, 4.10 ERA) has made a team-high 14 appearances while Will Brand (2-4, 4.30 ERA) and Ross Rogers (2-1, 4.34 ERA) have also given solid innings out of the bullpen.
