UT MARTIN SOFTBALL TO OPEN HOMESTAND AGAINST EVANSVILLE ON WEDNESDAY

The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team will open a three-game homestand with a non-conference matchup against Missouri Valley Conference foe Evansville on Wednesday, April 11. First pitch from Bettye Giles Field is scheduled for 3 p.m.
The Skyhawks (19-22) enter the midweek affair posting a doubleheader victory over Ohio Valley Conference rival Murray State on Monday afternoon. In the series, UT Martin notched 15 base hits along with seven runs in the doubleheader. Six players tallied multiple base hits in the series led by junior Alli Fulcher with three hits while Lauren Myers and Paige Clark paced the squad with five combined RBIs.
Over the past week three different Skyhawks have posted a batting average over .300 including both Myers and Fulcher notching a .375 average. Myers led the squad with a pair of extra base hits and five RBIs while Fulcher tallied a pair of RBIs as well. Senior Savannah Dodson also posted a .300 week with a double and two RBIs.
The pitching duo of Hannah Ridolfi (8-11, 2.38 ERA) and Caitlin Karo (11-8, 2.37 ERA) posted strong performances against Murray State, combining to allow just two earned runs in 15 innings of work. Ridolfi notched her second shutout of the season while Karo allowed two runs in eight innings of work.
Evansville enters the contest with an 11-22 overall record after dropping a three-game series against Missouri State this past weekend. The Purple Aces are led offensively by the play of Eryn Gould with a .384 batting average, nine doubles, three home runs and 12 RBIs. Meanwhile Brittany Hay has recorded a .262 batting average with six home runs and 22 RBIs along with seven steals. Morgan Florey paces the team’s pitching staff with an 8-11 record and 2.02 ERA in 131.2 innings of work.
Wednesday’s game marks the 30th meeting between the two programs with UT Martin holding a narrow 15-14 series advantage. The Skyhawks swept the season series a year ago with a pair of road victories. Overall, UT Martin is 8-2 against Evansville in games played at Bettye Giles Field.
