SKYHAWK SOFTBALL TO CLOSE OUT ROAD SWING AT AUSTIN PEAY AND MURRAY STATE

The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team will hit the road to cap of its five-game road swing with a pair of Ohio Valley Conference doubleheaders over the weekend. The Skyhawks will travel Austin Peay on Sunday, April 8 before squaring off against Murray State on Monday, April 9.
The Skyhawks (17-20, 2-4 OVC) head into the weekend looking to improve its OVC record after dropping two of the team’s first three league series. The squad will try to build upon the team’s recent momentum after picking up a 4-1 victory at Middle Tennessee in a midweek affair on Wednesday afternoon. In the contest the Skyhawks received a pair of RBIs by Lauren Myers to lead the way while Cailtin Karo posted a strong pitching performance in the circle.
Senior Jodie Duncan ranks fourth in the OVC in base hits while pacing the Skyhawks with a .330 batting average along with six doubles and 17 RBIs. Fellow senior Aeron Smith boasts a .315 batting average while ranking third in the OVC with 10 doubles to go along with 18 RBIs. Meanwhile, junior Alli Fulcher paces the Skyhawks with five home runs and 20 RBIs on the season.
The Skyhawks will go with the pitching duo of Caitlin Karo (10-7, 2.14 ERA) and Hannah Ridolfi (7-10, 2.45) as the team’s top starters. The duo currently ranks eighth and 10th respectively amongst the league’s ERA leaders while combining to tally 24 complete games and three shutouts in 219.1 innings of work.
Murray State enters the weekend boasting a 10-22 overall record along with a 0-4 mark in league play. The Racers recently snapped a lengthy eight-game losing streak with a 10-6 victory over Western Kentucky on Wednesday afternoon. The squad is led offensively by Sierra Gilmore with a .313 batting average, five doubles, three home runs and 21 RBIs. The duo of Haven Campbell (6-8, 3.44 ERA) and Olivia Suski (2-7, 3.35 ERA) garner the bulk of the team’s starts in the circle.
Austin Peay is a team on the rise with a 21-10 overall mark and 5-1 record in league play. The Governors have won six of their last eight games – including a 1-0 shutout over Chattanooga on Wednesday which marked the program’s first shutout since 2013. The Govs boast one of the league’s premier players in Danielle Liermann with a .402 batting average, seven doubles, 13 home runs and 36 RBIs. Meanwhile the pitching duo of Kelly Mardones (7-2, 1.93 ERA) and Morgan Rackel (10-5, 1.97 ERA) rank fifth and sixth respectively in ERA in the OVC.
