BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The title for most adidas Ohio Valley Conference Golfer of the Week awards now belongs to University of Tennessee at Martin senior Hunter Richardson, who nabbed his 15th career weekly mention today.
Richardson was previously tied with former Jacksonville State golfer Tomasz Anderson (2011-15) for the most OVC weekly honors. Today’s award is the sixth of the 2017-18 season for Richardson, which also shatters his own school record for most OVC Golfer of the Week honors in a single season.
A Clarksville, Tenn. native, Richardson overcame a pair of cold, windy days at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate to finish as runner-up in the event hosted by Arkansas State at RidgePointe Country Club.
Richardson finished with a 208 (-8) in the tournament after posting three straight below-par rounds (69-71-68). He led the field of 74 players in birdies (18) and par-4 scoring (3.90, -3) while his 68 was the best score of any participant in Tuesday’s final round.
Seven of Richardson’s 18 birdies in the tournament came in Round 3, as he carded four birdies over his final six holes to finish just two strokes behind individual medalist Matthew Cole from Arkansas State.
Richardson, who also won the OVC Golfer of the Week award five times as a junior and four times as a sophomore, leads the league with a 70.3 scoring average through 30 rounds this season. He has finished in the top-5 in 27 of his 46 career tournaments at UT Martin, including a dozen victories.
