April 3, 2018
JONESBORO, Ark. – The third and final round of the Bubba Barnett Golf Intercollegiate was played today as University of Tennessee at Martin senior Hunter Richardson claimed second-place honors at the tournament held at RidgePointe Country Club.
Richardson’s Round 3 score of 68 was the lowest in the 74-man field. The Clarksville, Tenn. native sat at even-par through 12 holes today but finished on a tear with four birdies in his final six opportunities. His final score of 208 (-8) was only two shots behind individual medalist Matthew Cole of Arkansas State. Richardson accounted for seven of UT Martin’s 16 birdies today while finishing the event ranked first in birdies (18) and par-4 scoring (3.90, -3).
“Hunter put together a very good score today considering the elements,” Skyhawk head coach Jerry Carpenter said. “We had wind gusts up to 20 and 30 miles per hour today and that made it tough on everybody. The conditions were tough but he accepted the challenge and came away with a great round of golf.”
As a team, UT Martin shot a 303 (+15) today to finish sixth in the final standings with a tally of 878 (+14). The Skyhawks concluded the 54-hole tournament with the second-most birdies (51) in the 14-team field.
Ross Redmont posted a third round 77 that included one birdie and 13 pars while Nick Wolf carded a pair of birdies on his way to a 78 today. Jack Story (80) completed the team scoring after rounding up four birdies while Cameron Smith (87) and Mason Chandler (80 as an individual) also represented UT Martin.
Redmont finished 13th in the tournament field with a cumulative score of 218 (+2) while Wolf completed his event with a 221 (+5). Story wrapped up the tournament with a final tally of 235 (+19) while Chandler and Smith finished with scores of 238 (+22) and 242 (+26), respectively.
The Skyhawks round out the 2017-18 regular season next week at the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate, which will be held in Hermitage, Tenn. on April 9-10.
