MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team reeled off a pair of singles wins and a doubles victory today but Ohio Valley Conference rival Murray State managed a 5-2 win at Skyhawk Varsity Courts.
Freshman Amelia Campbell was part of two UT Martin wins today, as she teamed with Andrea Plantada for a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles before accounting for a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.
Jemima Potter was responsible for the Skyhawks’ other victory this afternoon, posting a 7-6, 6-0 triumph at No. 2 doubles.
The doubles point came down to the final matchup as the win by Campbell and Plantada evened the competition at 1-all. However, Murray State (10-6, 4-0 OVC) was able to win the No. 1 slot by a 6-4 margin to take the early momentum.
Campbell’s win at No. 6 tied the match at 1-1 while Potter’s victory at No. 2 also knotted the overall score at 2-all. However, the visiting Racers closed out the match by winning the final three singles decisions, including a three-set tiebreaker at No. 1.
UT Martin will look to bounce back strong tomorrow when it plays host to OVC rival Austin Peay. First serve from Skyhawk Varsity Courts is set for 10 a.m.
