NO. 8 SKYHAWK EQUESTRIAN FALLS 10-6 TO FRESNO STATE IN UEC SEMIFINALS

DALLAS, Texas – The University of Tennessee at Martin opened the United Equestrian Conference Championships with a narrow 10-6 setback to Fresno State in today's semifinal round at the Dallas Equestrian Center.

Ranked No. 8 in the latest National Collegiate Equestrian Association poll, the Skyhawks tied the Bulldogs in equitation on the flat (2-2) and reining (2-2) but fell 3-1 in both equitation over fences and horsemanship. In raw points, UT Martin tallied 2,136 points while Fresno State accumulated 2,170.5 points.

Abbie Hopkins and Monika Zoromski each claimed points for the Skyhawks in equitation on the flat. Hopkins earned 141 points thanks to rides of 73 and 68 points while Zoromski notched a total of 129 points after performances of 63 and 66 points, respectively. Randi LaChance (63-54; 117 points) and Lindsay Anderson (52-50; 102 points) also competed for UT Martin.

In reining, the Skyhawks received team points out of Hannah McDonald (143.5 points) and Liana Nowak (139.5 points). McDonald produced scores of 72-71.5 while Nowak was responsible for back-to-back rides of 70 and 69.5 points. Madeline Williams (68-67; 135 points) and Noel Meadows (68-66.5; 134.5) additionally represented UT Martin in the event.

Anderson notched a team point for the Skyhawks in equitation over fences, earning an overall score of 136 after performances of 69 and 67 points. Brooke Pfeiffer accumulated scores of 74 and 67 for a total of 141 points but was barely edged out by a single point in her head-to-head matchup. Zoromski (60-68) and Hopkins (64-60) also took part for UT Martin with scores of 128 and 124 points, respectively.

Horsemanship was led by Devon Woods, as she earned the Skyhawk team point with scores of 72-71 for 143 points. Bobbie Piddock (71-72) also registered 143 points while Bailey Newlin (71-69; 140 points) and Jade Bleskey (70.5-69; 139.5 points) also competed but came up just short for UT Martin.

The Skyhawks round out the UEC Championships tomorrow at 9 a.m. when they face No. 9 ranked South Dakota State, who fell by a 15-1 margin to No. 6 SMU in today’s other semifinal.
