March 28, 2018
MARTIN, Tenn. – After the University of Tennessee at Martin tennis squad notched its first victory of the 2018 campaign last weekend, the Skyhawks will look to keep rolling this weekend with a pair of afternoon home matches against Ohio Valley Conference foes.
UT Martin plays host to Murray State at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 30 before hosting Austin Peay at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 31.
The Skyhawks broke through for a big victory last Friday at Belmont, generating a 5-2 road victory to improve to 1-2 in OVC play. In that match, Asel Jumamukhambetova, Jemima Potter and Andrea Plantada each won both their singles and doubles matchups while the freshman duo of Amelia Campbell (doubles) and Mizuki Sakurai (singles) both tallied victories as well.

Plantada and Potter have each dialed up a team-best 2-1 OVC record this spring while Jumamukhambetova carries a team-leading eight singles victories in 2017-18.
The Skyhawks have won each of the last two decisions against Murray State, holding a slight 22-19 all-time record against the Racers. UT Martin owns a 27-4 advantage over Austin Peay all-time, including a four-match winning streak in the series against the Governors.
Murray State has won five straight matches, improving to 9-6 overall with a 3-0 OVC record. Preseason OVC top-10 player Claire Chang has recorded a team-high 16 singles win this season while Amina Hadzic is 3-0 in league singles play and was named adidas OVC Player of the Week this morning. Sara Bjork and Jeanne Masson have each won nine doubles matches this season to pace the Racer attack.
Twins Claudia Yanes Garcia (No. 1) and Lidia Yanes Garcia (No. 2) were selected as the top two returning players in the league for Austin Peay (6-6, 2-1 OVC). Lidia was named OVC Player of the Week on Feb. 28 and has notched team-high victories in singles (19) and doubles (14) this season. That includes an unblemished 3-0 OVC record in both singles and doubles competitions.
