With the anticipation of weather concerns over the weekend, the University of Tennessee at Martin softball team will slightly alter its home schedule when opening Ohio Valley Conference play. The Skyhawks will now play defending OVC champion Jacksonville State on Friday, March 23 with first pitch of the doubleheader scheduled for 4 p.m. The squad will then host Tennessee Tech on Sunday, March 25 with first pitch of the doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Skyhawks (14-16) enter the weekend looking to build upon a strong showing in the Skyhawk Hampton Inn Classic last weekend despite suffering a 6-2 road victory at Memphis on Wednesday afternoon. In the team’s most recent contest, UT Martin outhit Memphis while Lauren Myers and Jodie Duncan each tallied a pair of base knocks.

UT Martin is led offensively by 2017 All-OVC first team selection Duncan with a .359 batting average while tallying five doubles and 15 RBIs. Senior Aeron Smith ranks as another All-OVC honoree a year ago, posting a .333 batting average with nine doubles and 15 RBIs. Junior Alli Fulcher ranks as the Skyhawks top long-ball threat, tallying a .314 average with six doubles, five home runs and 15 RBIs.

The Skyhawks will go with the starting pitching duo of freshman Caitlin Karo (8-5, 2.02 ERA) and sophomore Hannah Ridolfi (6-8, 2.19 ERA). Karo has tallied a pair of shutouts while notching 11 complete games in 83.1 innings of work. Ridolfi has tallied one shutout on the year in 92.2 innings of work.

Jacksonville State is 11-14 on the season and is led offensively by Taylor Beshears with a .352 batting average, nine doubles, one triple, three home runs and 15 RBIs. Taylor Sims (7-6, 2.14 ERA) paces the pitching staff with one shutout and a save in 88.1 innings of work.

Tennessee Tech enters the weekend with a 9-17 mark, opening OVC play at Southeast Missouri over the weekend. Hallie Davis (.360, four home runs and 12 RBIs) and Raegan Sparks (.354, six home runs and 19 RBIs) pace the squad offensively. Meanwhile Taylor Waldrop (5-7, 5.57 ERA) and Kayla Hughes (3-4, 8.76 ERA) will see action for the Golden Eagles.
