UT MARTIN TENNIS FALLS 7-0 TO EASTERN KENTUCKY IN HOME OPENER

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team won the No. 1 doubles matchup today but couldn’t piece together any other victories in a 7-0 setback to Eastern Kentucky at Skyhawk Varsity Courts.
Asel Jumamukhambetova and Jemima Potter joined forces to tally a convincing 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles, earning their first doubles win as a duo this spring. However, the visiting Colonels managed to win No. 2 doubles by a 6-4 margin and at No. 3 by a 6-0 margin. Mizuki Sakurai and Olha Burak teamed together for UT Martin at No. 2 while Andrea Plantada and Amelia Campbell took part at No. 3.
In singles play, Plantada came close to a win at No. 3 before ultimately falling 6-3, 7-6. Jumamukhambetova fought at No. 1 before falling 6-1, 6-4 while Burak lost by a 6-3, 6-2 margin at No. 5. Potter (lost 6-1, 6-3) competed at No. 2 while Sakurai (lost 6-3, 6-1) and Elina Geut (lost 6-1, 6-1) also represented UT Martin at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively.
The Skyhawks head back on the road for their next two matches, as they travel to Music City to take on Ohio Valley Conference rivals Belmont (March 23) and Tennessee State (March 24) on back-to-back days.
