UT MARTIN SOFTBALL TO HOST SKYHAWK HAMPTON INN CLASSIC THIS WEEKEND

The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team will play its final tournament of the season this weekend when playing host to the Skyhawk Hampton Inn Classic beginning on Saturday, March 17 and running through Sunday, March 18.
The Skyhawks (11-14) will play host to foes Akron and Northern Kentucky. Both days will feature an identical schedule at Bettye Giles Field with Akron and Northern Kentucky squaring off at 10 a.m. The Skyhawks will then take on Akron at 12:30 p.m. before playing Northern Kentucky at 3 p.m. Tickets for the tournament can be purchased at the gates of Skyhawk Park and cost $5.
UT Martin is currently in the midst of a streak of home matchups, playing 11 of its next 12 games in the friendly confines of Bettye Giles Field. The Skyhawks saw their home opener become spoiled by Southern Illinois on Wednesday afternoon, allowing a run in the top of the seventh which proved to be the difference in a 2-1 contest.
Three different Skyhawks are hitting over .300 on the season, led by the play of senior Jodie Duncan with a .329 batting average along with 12 RBIs. Fellow senior Aeron Smith has tallied a strong start to the season, posting a .323 batting average while leading the squad with eight doubles and 13 RBIs. Junior Alli Fulcher marks the third player in the group, notching a .319 average with six doubles, three home runs and 11 RBIs.
The pitching staff is highlighted by the play of freshman Caitlin Karo and sophomore Hannah Ridolfi. Karo is 6-4 on the year with a 1.75 ERA in 68.0 innings of work. Ridolfi is 5-7 with a 2.23 ERA in 79.1 innings of work while both have tallied nine complete games.
Akron (1-16-1) is led offensively by Sydney Jascoe with a .313 batting average, two home runs and six RBIs. Meanwhile Maddy Clowdus paces the squad with three home runs while tallying four RBIs. Mikayla Newland (1-7, 5.47 ERA) has tallied the team’s lone win in the circle, tallying one shutout in 48.2 innings of work. Kayla Kmett (0-4, 6.18 ERA) and Kooper Vertz (0-5, 8.05 ERA) serve as the team’s other options in the circle.
Northern Kentucky (10-6) has six players hitting over .300 on the season, led by Madi Mulder with a .397 batting average while tallying four doubles and 15 RBIs. Sydney Ferrante also marks a dangerous bat, notching a .392 average with six doubles, two home runs and 17 RBIs to lead the Norse. In the circle, Taylor Ginther (5-3, 3.76 ERA) paces the staff with one shutout in 44.2 innings of work. Ashlynn Roberts (3-2, 3.47 ERA) and Faith Howard (2-1, 4.85 ERA) will also see action.
