UTM TENNIS ENDS LENGTHY ROAD TRIP WITH 4-0 SETBACK TO NATIONALLY RANKED ALABAMA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Playing its fourth road match of the week, the University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team gave it their all before falling 4-0 to No. 49 ranked Alabama this evening.
The Skyhawks hung tough with the host Crimson Tide in doubles but fell 6-2 at No. 3 and 6-3 at No. 1. UT Martin’s No. 2 team of Olha Burak and Mizuki Sakurai held a 4-3 lead over Alabama’s Alba Cortina-Pou and Kimberley Gintrand before the Crimson Tide clinched the first point of the matchup.
Alabama (13-7) was then able to pick up singles wins at No. 3, No. 1 and No. 6 to finish out the match.
After nine matches on the road to begin the spring, the Skyhawks play their first home match of the 2017-18 campaign on Saturday, March 17. UT Martin will square off against Ohio Valley Conference rival Eastern Kentucky at Skyhawk Varsity Courts at 11 a.m.
