JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team picked up a pair of singles victories today but it ultimately wasn’t enough as the Skyhawks fell 5-2 to Ohio Valley Conference rival Jacksonville State.

Jemima Potter followed with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 2 over Alessia Locati to nudge the Skyhawks ahead by a 2-1 margin in the match.

However, Jacksonville State (8-1, 1-0 OVC) accounted for each of the remaining five points. In doubles, the Gamecocks won 6-0 at No. 2 and 6-3 at No. 1 while the No. 3 matchup with UT Martin’s Olha Burak and Mizuki Sakurai against Marine Alberteau and Diana Monsalve was knotted at 3-all before it went unfinished.

The singles scores were tight throughout, as the Skyhawks fell by a 7-6 margin in three individual matchups. Amelia Campbell was defeated 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4 before Elina Geut suffered a tough 7-6, 6-3 setback at No. 6.
