MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team is ready to open Ohio Valley Conference play as it travels to Tennessee Tech this weekend. Because of ongoing weather concerns, a doubleheader will take place on Friday, March 9 starting at 1 p.m. The series will conclude on Saturday, March 10 at 2 p.m.
UT Martin (2-10) is led by freshman Casey Harford (.286 batting average, three home runs and eight RBIs). The trio of Carson Shrode, JoJo Allen and Tyler Albright have accounted for two home runs each and have driven in a combined 18 runs. Jordan Stoner has reached base safely in six consecutive games as he has been walked five times and reached base via hit by pitch on six occasions this season. Outfielder Collin Edwards paces the squad in doubles with four, two of which came in UT Martin’s midweek game at Arkansas State on Tuesday.
The rotation for the weekend will be righty Austen Bullington (0-1, 6.61 ERA and 10 strikeouts) on Friday. The Saturday matchup will feature right-handed pitcher Winston Cannon (0-1, 9.88 ERA and a team-high 12 strikeouts) on the bump. Lefty Sam Folks (1-2, 9.00 ERA and 10 strikeouts) will draw the Sunday start for the Skyhawks. The Skyhawk bullpen has seen solidification behind the arms of Konnor Aherin (1-0, 3.38 ERA and nine strikeouts) and Austin Buzick (0-0, 5.40 ERA and four strikeouts).
Tennessee Tech (7-4) is led by Alex Junior (.468 batting average, three home runs and 14 RBIs), Trevor Putzig (.439 batting average, five home runs and 19 RBIs) and Chase Chambers (.423 batting average, four home runs and 18 RBIs). Ten other Golden Eagles have hit .300 or better while five additional batters have double-digit RBIs on the season for the best offense in the OVC.
The Tennessee Tech pitching staff is led by a pair of lockdown relievers in Ethan Roberts (1-0, 1.08 ERA and 14 strikeouts) and Colton Provey (1-0, 1.86 ERA and 10 strikeouts). Righty Travis Moths (2-1 7.71 ERA and team-best 16 strikeouts) has started all three Friday games this season for the Golden Eagles, while Tennessee Tech followed with right-hander Nick Osborne (0-0, 9.31 ERA) and righty Marcus Evey (0-0, 10.57 ERA) last weekend at Troy.
