UT MARTIN STAYS AT NO. 8 IN FIRST EDITION OF NCEA MARCH RANKINGS
March 6, 2018
MARTIN, Tenn. – There was no movement in the National Collegiate Equestrian Association top-10 poll from last week, as the University of Tennessee at Martin remained at No. 8 in the rankings presented by Farnam.
The Skyhawks have now found themselves in the NCEA top-10 rankings in 13 consecutive polls, reaching as high as No. 8 in four of those weeks.
UT Martin has been idle from official competition since a 10-6 victory over No. 8 South Dakota State on Feb. 24. That win was the Skyhawks’ third of the season over a nationally ranked opponent, as they also defeated No. 10 Delaware State (9-6 on Oct. 7) and No. 5 Fresno State (11-5 on Nov. 9).
Randi LaChance leads UT Martin with a 77.9 average and two MOP’s in equitation on the flat while Monika Zoromski has tallied a team-best five wins in the event. The Skyhawks close out a formidable attack in Hunt Seat with four different riders (Abbie Hopkins, LaChance, Zoromski, Lindsay Anderson) who have garnered MOP’s in equitation over fences. Hopkins paces UT Martin in the event with two MOP’s, six wins and an 80.5 scoring average.
In horsemanship, Tess Baumann (team-high two MOP’s, 72.9 average) and Bobbie Piddock (team-best four wins) pave the way for the Skyhawk success in the Western discipline. The tandem of Madeline Williams (team-high 69.8 scoring average) and Noel Meadows have generated five victories and one MOP apiece for UT Martin in reining.
The Skyhawks were preceded in today’s poll by No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Auburn, No. 3 Texas A&M, No. 4 Oklahoma State, No. 5 SMU, No. 6 TCU and No. 7 Baylor. South Dakota State and South Carolina rounded out the poll at No. 9 and No. 10, respectively.
UT Martin returns to action next week when it hosts Sweet Briar College for an exhibition on March 15 and Minnesota-Crookston on March 16.
