UT MARTIN GOLF VISITS ARIZONA FOR THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR IN SPRING SEASON OPENER

MARTIN, Tenn. – The 2018 spring season begins for the University of Tennessee at Martin golf team this weekend when the Skyhawks take part in the Loyola Intercollegiate, held in Goodyear, Ariz. on Feb. 25-26.
This marks the third straight year that UT Martin has attended this tournament. The Skyhawks finished fourth out of 17 teams with a score of 851 (-13) in 2016 before an 860 (-4) placed UT Martin eighth in the field of 16 squads last season.
The Skyhawks are one of 19 teams in the 2018 Loyola Intercollegiate field, joining Air Force, Army West Point, Charleston, Connecticut, DePaul, Drake, Eastern Michigan, Gonzaga, Hartford, host Loyola, Missouri State, Murray State, St. John’s, Seton Hall, Siena, SIUE, Towson and Xavier. UT Martin boarded a flight today and will play its practice round on Saturday, Feb. 24.
The tournament officially opens with 36 holes at 8:45 a.m. CST on Sunday, Feb. 25 as the Skyhawks are paired with Army West Point, Drake and Xavier. The third and final round of 18 holes will start at 8:45 a.m. CST on Monday, Feb. 26. The local forecast calls for sunny skies and a high of 73 degrees with winds up to seven miles per hour at the Palm Valley Golf Club, a par-72 course playing at 7,015 yards.
Predicted to finish second in the Ohio Valley Conference by the league’s head coaches, UT Martin will trot out a lineup that includes Hunter Richardson, Jack Story, Ross Redmont, Nick Wolf and Zach Haynes. Richardson, who leads the OVC with a 70.3 scoring average, finished fourth out of 104 competitors with a 207 (-9) in the 2016 Loyola Intercollegiate.
